Golden Guidelines to Obtain Your Targets
I am often asked how I consistently achieve my goals. One of the ways I propose to them is to set a deadline for the goal. If you are considering a period of time in which you want to achieve your goal, then it is less apt to distance yourself from you. As with any job, there is a time frame for the task at hand. It creates a pace at which you can carefully apply the work necessary to achieve the task or goal. If you plan some time every day or every week, depending on your goal, you can tick off the daily or weekly tasks as you go on.
I prefer to call the time frame “bookends”. When you have an accurate starting point and finish line, I think it is easier for the mind to have a clear view of the finish line and the items that need to be checked off on the way to the finish line. It doesn’t have to be a race, but if you have a deadline for a certain amount of time, you can’t hesitate and postpone it. It will motivate you to complete the goal every day or every week (If it’s every week, I recommend the same day of the week. Make it a routine to check off the tasks that day every single week.)
A good example of a time frame that can be called bookends is the time from the end of summer (Labor Day) to the holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, etc.). It is actually one of the best times of the year to get back on track. People tend to relax and get out of the routine in the summer and of course partying can tend to get the most out of people on the holidays. So, the time between those two bookends can be a time when you regroup, focus on the task at hand, and devote yourself to the work that needs to be done to achieve your goal. It’s also an excellent time to develop a consistent diet and exercise routine to shed excess body fat and get back on track.
This is a simple but effective way to achieve your goals. I believe this goes hand in hand with visualizing a goal, gathering the skills or materials required for the goal, and applying the actual work to accomplish the mission. So look in your personal calendar for times when you can mark bookends for your goals. Day after day or week after week, stick to work and get it done!
