Gambling in Las Vegas is not like gambling anywhere else in the world. And the only way to get a feel for what Las Vegas is like is to experience it for yourself.
As you prepare for a trip to Las Vegas, I have a few things that can help ensure you are having a great time. Here are nine facts every Las Vegas player needs to know. You will find out if the slots are really rigged, which traps to avoid the most, and why new games are money pits.
1 – The best video poker paytables are not easy to find
Video poker machines have a house edge based on the paytable and how the strategy is used when playing. The house edge can vary by 5% or more depending on the paytable.
Many Las Vegas casinos offer a number of paytables for every variation of video poker they have on the floor. I don’t know why they’re doing this, but it’s usually good news for you. However, this does not mean that they place the bet payout tables where they are easy to find.
Las Vegas casinos want to take advantage of video poker players who are ignorant of the paytables.
Hence, they tend to place the machines with the weaker paytables where more players will see and play them.
There are two things you need to do to make sure you don’t get stuck playing a video poker machine with a poor payout table. The first thing you need to learn is which paytables are good and which are bad for each variety you want to play.
The second thing is to look at video poker machines that you play at until you find one with a good payout table. If you can’t find a good paytable, go to another casino. You have many options in Las Vegas.
2 – The Low Table Minimum Blackjack Trap
Many players want to play blackjack, but they don’t want to bet too much on each hand. Las Vegas casinos want to offer tables for this type of blackjack player, so you can usually find tables with a table balance of at least $ 10. Sometimes you can even find $ 5 tables.
But these tables are almost always a trap. That’s what I call the 6 to 5 traps. The payout for a natural blackjack at the low minimum wagering tables is almost always 6 to 5 instead of 3 to 2.
This is a trap as the house edge is much higher on a 6 to 5 table than on a 3 to 2 table. It’s so much higher that if that’s necessary for a 3 to 2 payout, you’d better be playing at a table with a double the minimum bet.
Always avoid 6 to 5 blackjack tables. If you can’t afford to bet the higher bets at the tables that pay 3 to 2, you should find something other than blackjack to play with.
3 – Where to Find the Best Roulette Tables
Roulette tables all look the same to most players, but there are two different types of wheels in Las Vegas. And you need to avoid one type of bike as the house edge is almost double the other.
The best roulette tables and wheels have a single zero space for a total of 37 seats. The bad wheels also have a double null space for a total of 38 spaces. When playing roulette, you should only play with 37 spaces at the wheel.
The problem is that there aren’t as many of the 37 space wheels in Las Vegas as there are 38 space wheels. And most of the 37 space wheels are in areas with high limit values. The minimum stakes are much larger in high limit areas that not everyone can afford to play in them.
4 – slots at the airport
Slot machines have a higher house edge than most casino games no matter where you play them. But there is one place in Las Vegas where the slots have an even bigger house edge than normal. That place is the airport.
Never play the slots at the airport. If you’re waiting for a flight out of Las Vegas and want to play slots, you’d better be playing at a mobile casino on your phone or tablet.
5 – It’s always the same time
Most Las Vegas casinos are huge and you can play all day and all night without ever seeing if it is light or dark outside. This is by design as the casinos don’t want you to think about what time it is.
If you forget the time, you may end up playing longer. And the longer you play, the more the casino does.
Most of the people who go to Las Vegas are gambling but they don’t want to gamble or lose more than you planned. Because of this, you need to avoid falling into the trap and not worrying about what time it is.
To combat this, take frequent breaks while playing. Get away from the slot machine or table game at least once an hour. Take a few minutes to exercise your legs and check what time it is.
6 – Las Vegas doesn’t need to upgrade slot machines
Many gamblers believe that Las Vegas casinos manipulate the slot machines in some way. This includes changing payouts while playing and other wild allegations.
The problem with these thoughts and theories is that the casinos don’t have to do anything with the slots. Slot machines are designed to take your money for who they are. So the casinos just have to get people to play them.
In addition, Nevada laws apply to any casino that does something illegal with its slot machines. Casinos will not take the chance of being closed by doing something stupid like cheating on their slot machines. You don’t have to cheat to win big on the slots.
7 – New game bugs
Las Vegas is the best place for new games to be placed. If a new game goes well in Las Vegas, it has an opportunity to be tested in other areas.
It can be fun to try new gambling in Las Vegas, but there is a problem. When you play a new game you don’t know anything about it. This includes the best strategy and what the house edge is.
This is dangerous as some casino games have a house edge of 5% or more. And if you play any of these games, your bankroll will run out quickly.
Don’t play games that you are unfamiliar with in Las Vegas or anywhere else. Whenever you see a new game, write down the name and search online for more information. Don’t play it until you find out the house edge and if there is a strategy to use.
8 – Why is there so much alcohol?
Alcohol is readily available in Las Vegas casinos. Free drinks aren’t as common as they used to be, but you can still drink as much as you want if you’re willing to pay for them.
I’m not telling you whether to drink or not, but you need to understand why casinos make sure there is enough alcohol available.
Players play longer and lose more when they drink. Because of this, the casinos have primarily offered free drinks to players. If it wasn’t profitable to give drinks to players, the casinos wouldn’t.
9 – Look for tournaments
You normally only hear about tournaments with poker. However, some casinos offer tournaments for casino games such as slots, video poker, and blackjack.
Playing in a tournament is one of the best ways to control your budget while playing. When you enter a game tournament, you pay a set entry fee and then compete for a prize that is paid out to the top finishers. In other words, you get guaranteed game time for a set fee.
If you are interested in tournaments while in Las Vegas, do some research on a schedule before you travel to the casinos. This way you can make sure that you don’t miss out on the tournaments that you really want to take part in.
