The constant promotion of sports betting is incomprehensible. It entices teenagers to think that it is an easy way to make money. The commercials offer all sorts of incentives to make it look like it’s not a loss.

There are television commercials during most sporting events which makes the game bait more enticing as it is so easy to do in real time on a phone.

The state believed that sports betting should be legal to increase its own income, but it should also have mandated safeguards so that our children would not be exposed to constant encouragement. Do you really want our college kids to gamble away their tuition money? And what if they can’t pay for their losses – go to jail or break their legs?

It’s time to put limits on advertising and stop the gambling addicts from doubling and tripling.

Stop giving intelligence information to former presidents

The historical practice of providing information to previous presidents as a courtesy was possibly a good idea in the old days. As such, they could provide the current administration with valuable insight into the problems our country is facing, based on their past experience. All of that is now falling by the wayside with ex-President Donald Trump.

Who in their right mind would heed the advice of a president who has been charged twice, caused a riot in our Capitol, and treated the coronavirus pandemic like a cold? Certainly not Joe Biden.

Former President Trump gives us a compelling reason why the age-old practice of providing information to a former president should be stopped immediately.

Restoring the health of the earth

While fast food and cheap fossil fuels are good for growth, what about the heart? We need a triple bypass to restore a healthy heart and planet.

1. Avoid government subsidies for fossil fuel pollution with a CO2 fee to make polluters pay.

2. Avoid the political divide with an impartial solution that works quickly and effectively

3. Avoid the bureaucracy with a dividend paid by polluters to every citizen who provides the means to restore it.

The Energy Innovation and Coal Dividends Act is exactly what the doctor ordered. It charges a gradually increasing fossil fuel fee and returns the net proceeds to citizens in a dividend check. People can use the check to make healthier choices for themselves and the planet. What better Valentine’s Day could we give our children than a healthier planet.

Call your representatives and encourage them to support this bill.
