MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The heated debate about gambling and lottery is about to be settled.

Sports betting, slot machines and table games as well as a lottery in Alabama are on the table.

The proposal would allow the state to take advantage of expanded gambling in five locations across the state, including Mobile Greyhound Park.

The bill was submitted by Senator Del Marsh on Tuesday evening.

Senator Marsh says a gambling offer would raise $ 700 million each year, much of which goes to the general budget and funds projects across the state.

The money generated from the lottery would pay the bill for students in the form of scholarships.

Senator Greg Albritton expects the bill to be in the Senate for at least a week or more before going to the house.

Voters can have their say in the general election in 2022 or possibly sooner if lawmakers require a special election.
