JACKSON, miss. (WJTV) – On Monday, state Senator Philip Moran (R District 46) announced the introduction of laws to enable online sports betting in the state. The bill would allow Mississippians to place bets safely on their phone or computer, with a percentage of operator profits going to the state.

“Every day, millions of Americans in 15 states have access to cutting-edge mobile sports betting that allows them to place bets on their favorite teams and leagues at home while generating much-needed tax revenues. Unfortunately, Mississippi law doesn’t allow online sports betting, but this bill aims to change that, ”Moran said. “Mississippi has left money on the table by not authorizing online sports betting and it is time to modernize Mississippi gambling offerings and do the best for Mississippians.”

Currently, sports betting is legal in the state’s commercial casinos, but not online.
