CHARLES TOWN, WESTVIRGINIA, USA, February 21, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ – After the death of Pauls Plunder, who was “fatally injured after the eighth pole and euthanized on the track” on February 20 at the Charles Town Race in Hollywood Casino The course run by Penn National Gaming, executive director of Animal Wellness Action, Marty Irby, who testified before Congress in support of the Horse Racing Integrity and Safety Act (HISA), which came into effect on December 27, 2020, made the following statement from:
“We are amazed at how many deaths continue to occur in Charles Town. The betting crowd will no longer tolerate the death of these horses – this is not ancient Rome with games at the Colosseum and Circus Maximus, it’s 2021, and the track in Charles Town has become widely known as the Bottom of the Barrel Comes to Good and protection of horses.
“It is imperative that Penn National Gaming, who operates the grounds and race authorities, evaluates and improves the track surfaces, introduces a whip ban and guidelines that prevent American racehorses from ending up dead on the track or in the slaughter pipeline, ultimately as a meat platter on foreign plates. Our legendary American horses deserve better. “
The death of Pauls Plunder was discovered through research into the racing industry’s EQUIBASE database and follows the death of numerous horse deaths first reported by The Journal News and then by the Associated Press earlier this month.
Irby, recently honored by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for his work protecting American horses, led the prosecution in the animal shelter in support of HISA and has long campaigned to end the use of the whip and the passage of the whip SAG law (Safeguard American Food Exports) headed by US representatives Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Vern Buchanan (R-FL) and US-Sens. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) as well as Lindsey Graham (R-SC) that would prohibit the slaughter of horses on US soil and prohibit the transportation of American horses for the purpose of slaughter.

To prevent cruelty, we encourage the establishment of good public policies and work to enforce those policies. In order to make good laws, we have to elect good lawmakers, so we remind voters which candidates are interested in our issues and which are not. We believe helping animals helps us all.
